How to Deadlift

It’s the second best exercise for us skinny guys that are gaining muscle. Learning the proper technique is vital! Muscles worked during this exercise are lower back, hamstrings, butt. The most important thing when performing a deadlift is to keep your back straight and don’t let it round.

This is how a regular deadlift is performed. Do this:

1. Put the bar on the ground. Get your feet under it. Your shins should be almost touching the bar.

2. Stand a little wider than your shoulder width. Grip the bar with your hands even a bit wider (by a centimeter or two).

3. Thighs should be almost parallel to the ground. Shoulders a little in front of the bar.

4. Keep your back straight, head looking forward.

5. Start lifting weight. Push from your heels. Keep your body tight through whole movement. DO NOT ROUND YOUR BACK!!!!

6. You are done when you stand straight and lock your hips and knees.

7. Now lower the bar slowly. Keep your chest up and look forward. Flex your hips first and only then your knees.( Imagine you are sitting back into a chair way behind you…) DO NOT ROUND YOUR BACK!

8. Put the bar back on the ground

This was one rep. You have to lift the bar off the ground with each rep.
