Today, I want to post a Success story of one of the blog visitors – Jair’s story. They guy gained 15lbs in 1,5 months using advice of this blog. Most importantly though, he had enough guts and determination to eat enough and actually follow the advice and stick with it. Some people just read stuff, but don’t apply it as advised.

But Jair succeeded and agreed to share his story with us. He is inspirational for me and I hope for you too ;) Give this a read! ;)

Hello everyone, my name is Jair and I’m here to tell you about my success in weight/muscle gain. Throughout my teenage years I was always your average fun, outgoing, athletic guy. You would think I was happy with how my life was
going, seeing how I was captain of the varsity soccer team and had a lot of friends but what everyone did not know about me was that I wasn’t happy about my body and was very self conscious about how I looked. Finally I got fed up with being the skinny kid being picked on and signed up for a gym. I would work out three times a week for a few months but never really saw any gains, don’t get me wrong I got some what ripped but not exactly what I wanted. My whole issue was that I thought just going to the gym alone would help me gain the weight I wanted. So I quit the gym and just tried to cope with the idea that there was nothing I could do to get where I want to be. A few years passed before I actually started to do some real research on how to gain weight the right way. Searching on my computer I came across this website, “36pounds.com” Once I read through most of the blogs on the site, I understood what I was doing wrong all along. The blog that caught my attention first was the one on creatine monohydrate and I was definitely intrigued by what I read on it so with my workout plans I added taking creatine. As long as you take it and eat the right way, you should get some major results.
This site gave me the foundation to start off fresh and on the right path to success. Thanks to all the help I got from this site I’ve gone from weighing 129lbs to 144lbs. It wasn’t easy getting to 144lbs but having the determination will get you to your goal. I highly recommend anyone with my issue of being skinny and having trouble gaining weight to follow these guidelines. Here below are a few questions Adrian sent me to answer for you guys. If you have any further questions you would like for me to answer just give them to Adrian and he can send them to me so I could answer.

Thanks,
Jair

Questions:

1. Why did you start training? What was the motivation? (Maybe some event happened that made you go “that’s it… I’m bulking up and changing my life!!!”)

- I began training because I was tired of being skinny. I wanted to be like the guys in a movie called “Never Back Down.” My motivation was knowing that my younger cousins were bigger and stronger than me. Instead of being someone they looked up to, they had someone to pick on. That’s just not how things are supposed to be and I got fed up with being bullied by my own family so I began training hard and eating right.

2. What was the hardest thing to do?

- To me the hardest part was the eating. Most of the time I would only eat about two meals a day with some snacks every now and then. Going from eating two meals to six was super difficult but my motivation and determination helped me get it done!

3. What do you enjoy most with training?
- Getting that good feeling after having an intense workout. You feel stronger, muscular, appealing! Knowing that working out will help me out with my self-esteem issues sure makes it more enjoyable to do.

4. How do you feel with your new body?

- I feel great!!! My confidence and self-esteem is through the roof. Never in a million years did I think I would ever feel this way about my body but I’m still not close to being done and knowing that my body still has a lot more transformation to go through makes me keep fighting to reach my goal!!!

5. What could you advice to fellow skinny brothers who want to repeat your success?

- Never give up!!! Even when it seems like you’ll never get to where you want to be. Nothing is impossible! Just get your mind set on your goal and don’t let anything or anyone get in your way to achieve it! Make sure to eat, eat, eat! Healthy foods that is J This website is probably the best thing that could have ever happened to us skinny guys. Take advantage of the information given to us and use it! Believe me, it really does work if you follow a good diet and have a good workout plan. I would go with the 5×5 workout plan, to me it’s the best you could go with.

6. What are your future goals with training?

- First of all to gain a few more pounds and get ripped like the guys from “Never Back Down” and after I’m fully content with how my body looks, I would like to try and help out anyone that is going through the same problems I went through.

Thanx a million Jair!!!

Can i please get a sample of your Nutrition plan?

Thanks!

Will send this question to Jair ;)

how much days (exact) did it take u?

Mikel, how is that important? It’s 6 weeks. Doesn’t mean you will do it exactly the same way or faster than him. Just focus on your eating. Don’t compare yourself with Jair. Just use it as inspiration to what is possible. Doesn’t mean you must have the same gains. Gains will differ for people, that’s natural. ;)

Adrian

Tnx Adrian for cheering me up,Yes im planning to buy supplements like creatine or even whey protein but since my allowance aint sufficient to buy one maybe i guess ill focus more eating solid foods..
Since ive been this work out my brother told me that im gaining weights and it feels amazing coz no one told me that even before. Now I’m so motivated to continue this..Tnx to this motivational story coz without this i guess i quit long before and its true!
I find more strength looking and surfing at this site as if it was made for me..lol!
tnx a lot

Hey,

my pleasure man! My goal is to help 1000 guys like you to transform their bodies. I hope to see you getting great results. ;)

As far as supplements, yeah, you need solid food more than them. Whey protein is good but only as an addition. Creatine is useful but if you have to choose, take protein not creatine.

Cheers,
Adrian

I asked some of my friends about their own program on how do they build up their muscles but since ive been only in 2 weeks of training though i should have to stick with what my instructor said to me which was a full body workout that i should do for a whole month. After a month he will be going to put more weights on what i use to lift..
I just wanna know when should i have to start my own program? or should i obey what my instructor said to me ?
coz he maybe fooling me around just for me to stay longer at the gym…

Hi Joel,

I don’t think your instructor wants to lie to you or stall your progress. Since you are new, you better listen to more experienced people, whether its me or instructor or personal trainer or some great book like Starting Strength. Friends’ advice is not always good. Esp. if they just do curls for biceps and bench press for chest and they don’t train anything else. If they spent 2 hours in the gym talking then be careful. Not many people have good advice, and in commercial gyms it s often, now warehouse or garage type of gyms are bit different. They usually have hardcore lifters that have been lifting for long and they know a lot and have something to show for it.

So, I think you should post a routine that instructor gave you. I think that full body training is good and my 5×5 workout is full body training also. Maybe you are very lucky and have an instructor who has trained a lot of people and has good knowledge, give him a chance, eat a lot and see how it works. You haven’t enough experience to create your own training. Learn from others now ;)

Cheers

Thanks, now i know i should have to believe to my instructor for my own sake. Here’s my full body work out that was given to me:
My workout starts with a
a.)threadmill(10mins at 5speeds)
b.)seated leg press machine(50lbs.3sets for 12 reps)
c.)Leg curl machine(50lbs.3sets for 12 reps)
d.)Shoulder press(60lbs.3sets for 12 reps)
e.)Lot pulldown machine(60lbs.3sets for 12 reps)
f.)Seated shoulder press(60lbs 3sets for 12 reps-back)
g.)Seated shoulder press(60lbs 3sets for 12 reps-front)
h.)EZ Bar Curls standing(3 sets for 12 reps)-i forgot the pound.Probably i’m using d light one
i.)Neck Exercises with dumbles(3 sets for 12 reps)

I personally dont know whats the equipment im using but since i would like to post it here i tried to make effort to research all these.Well, I consumed 45 mins doing these all exercises which i guess pretty good.1 to 2 minutes break on each sets.My instructor told me I should do this for this first and up to the 2nd month. Then ill be adding more pounds on the second month of training, though as of now, i actually added weights on it.

What do you think of my full body workout adrian?
Is it okay or should i have to add more exercises?
Tnx a lot

And oh i forgot..!
J.)Cable exercise(60lbs 3 sets for 12 repititions)

Is that for chest? Is it cable flies maybe?

for chest adrian..

Dumbbell bench press is much better or dumbbell flies. Barbell bench press even better :)

Good

Well, I think you could be learning how to do real exercises like squats, deadlifts, barbell rows and bench press with overhead press. Ask him why can’t you do them? And could you do them next month. If he says they are dangerous and machine exercises are better, than you need to find a new trainer.

As far as the routine you mention – I don’t see why you need 3 shoulder exercises and all the same pressing? Maybe you are doing lateral raises, reverse flies and press but just wrote them as one here since you didn’t know how to call them? Also I don’t see chest exercise. It should be included in full body training definitely.

Don’t go adding exercises though, the opposite would be better, instead of 2 isolation exercises for legs, squats would be better. 3 shoulder exercises every day might be too much too, keep one and rotate it every workout – lets say you would do overhead press on monday, reverse flies on wednesday and lateral raises on friday. For back you could do barbell rows instead of pulldowns.

If you are really interested in learning why compound exercises like squats are better than the machines, I suggest you read book Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe, you will know more than 80 percent of people training in the gym! :)

Cheers

Thanks for the advice, ill be asking by tomorrow my instructor about doing exercises like squats, deadlifts, barbell rows and bench press with overhead press. But if he still insist i dunno if ill gonna be at that gym but ill try to approach him in a polite way ..

You mean shoulder press on letter (D) exercise?
heres the link on what im saying

http://www.bodysolidequipment.com/images/Shoulder%20Press%20Olympic%20Bench.jpg

Im not doing any lateral raises, reverse flies and press!Only those exercises ive mentioned above are my routines. Hope you would help me with this!
I had read your 5×5 exercises and its quite interesting hope ill be introducing it soon to my instructor..Tnx adrian..

I can’t open the link it doesn’t work, but is it this exercise you do 3 times?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpWrzp9Mnyg

There is no point in doing 3 presses for shoulders. Are letters d, f, g the same exercise? Or you are bench pressing with dumbbels, and then doing another bench press but on an incline bench? :)

Definitely be polite and in learning mode! ;) No need to argue. Just say that those exercises are more effective and can he teach you how to do them. ;)

Let me know what happens!
