This is a guest post by a fellow blogger who helps people with fitness and life Scott Marcaccio. He shares his insights on how to succeed at gaining muscle! And he is very right so read this one for sure! ;)
Day in and day out you pound the weights, you drink your protein shakes, and you try to eat properly… Why isn’t the scale moving? Why do I look the exact same!? Doesn’t that frustrate you? Let’s cover the biggest reason you will get frustrated in the gym – you aren’t getting the results you want quickly enough.
The Results You Can’t See
Bigger. Stronger. Harder. You’re not going to see results like this after a week in the gym. Sorry to all of you who fell for the get jacked overnight ads, but it takes time to build a physique that stands out from the crowd.
Here’s the key – You usually won’t see the results until the majority of the work is already done. The effects of your choices aren’t noticeable right away. When you make the right choice, you won’t see the results today. When you make the wrong choice, you won’t see the results today.
When you hit the gym, have a killer workout where you push yourself harder than you’ve ever pushed before, go home and drink your post-workout protein shake and carbohydrates exactly as you’re supposed to… do you wake up the next morning with pounds of new muscle?
If that was the way it worked, even your grandma would be hella swole. That was the right choice though, wasn’t it? It was… and if you keep making those right choices, and keep crushing it every day, that’s when you will start to get the results you want. There are things happening behind the curtain that we aren’t aware of.
What You Should Focus On
The most frustrated people I know are the ones who gauge all of their progress on their results. If you stay focused on the actions, and take those actions day in and day out, that’s when they start to add up to results. The results come LAST – remember this! Consistency in taking action needs to be your best friend.
Beat your poundages. Beat your calorie goal. Beat your “days consistent” record. Over weeks you will start to make noticeable gains. It doesn’t happen over night, but it DOES happen.
Focus on your progression and stop questioning every single damn thing you’re doing when you come across some new information. Here’s an obvious fact – there’s a hell of a lot of conflicting advice in this industry. Start with what’s logical and try that for a few weeks. If it works, great – if not, change it. You’ll be in a much better place when you have actual real-world experience with a routine, a diet, or a supplement rather than staying in theory mode.
Why Most People Fail
They’re damn inconsistent. They’ll eat like a champion one day, and like an anorexic model the next three. That’s why it is SO important to just make small tweaks to your habitual eating patterns, and overhaul your diet over a period of weeks or months. If you set up a 6-meal a day plan that’s completely different than what you’re eating, I can guarantee you that you’re going to fall into the champion/anorexic model within a few days.
If you’re not gaining weight, don’t throw everything out the window! 9 times out of 10, it’s your nutrition that’s holding you back. Make small tweaks – add in a protein shake here, some olive oil there, some peanut butter in meal 3, whatever. It’s a very, very easy problem to fix. But DO NOT throw everything out the window. Work with your current habits.
Calories are easy to find. Check out my video on how to add 1200 clean calories per day in 90 seconds.
Keep Crushing It
You’re on the warpath. Make sure you have the right tactics. Settle on a routine you’re going to commit to for 12 weeks. Write yourself out a food plan with foods that are actually available to you given the circumstances. It’s much easier to add to what you’re already habitually eating than to throw everything out the window. Then it’s time for action. Stop. Thinking.
Take a full set of pictures every 2 weeks to compare progress.
Weigh yourself once a week at the same time, with the same clothes (or lack of clothes) on.
Now CRUSH IT! Stop asking questions, stop getting obsessive-compulsive about your sets and reps, and just focus on taking those small little actions day after day. Adjust your tactics as the results from the scale, pictures, and strength in the gym give you your feedback.
Those small little actions add up in a huge way to a physique that will make people’s jaws drop.
